City Poet: Ma Bing /Guo Xiaochuan |
In creation of fine arts, the scenery is a theme very difficult to process. Its difficulty lies in: Every piece of grass and tree totally connecting with emotion. What a pity that very many scenery painters do not know this principle by heart, who either draws a flower is just a flower, draws a tree is just the tree; or thinks himself as a wise man, pursuing an ideal that to draw flowers unlike the flowers and to draw trees unlike the trees, finally falls an embarrassing situation with condescending or sickly sentimentality. Not long ago I wrote this article, I was invited to visit a painter’s extravagant studio, certainly also watched a big landscape painting. Looked and listened, finally I was actually confused.

My State of Beijing |
"He, whose purpose of existence is to develop his ability to sense and feel, is an artist." I can't remember who said it yet it stuck in my mind.
I like to take random street pictures, the sights nobody pays attention to. I also like to capture the images that quickly pass me while I'm driving. I love to take unusual street pictures on rainy or foggy days. These are the preparation work before my painting starts. It's one of the ways I collect material. I like to be alone and at ease. Sometimes I go to the countryside turning off my cell phone just to be alone. I try to capture all the things that can stop me or move me through a notebook or camera. I store them in my memory, hoping one day they will turn into pictures, so other people can have the opportunity to see my painting and feel what I have felt before, to be touched by what have touched me.

The Languages of Art during the Era of Techniques |
The mission of an artist is to make every effort to disappear behind his work. He can’t be a man in the public’s eye. But in this era when communication via multimedia keep on developing and when the techniques are so distract, the artwork disappears behind the painter.
If a painter wishes to be a popular people, his artwork would be harmed. Then these works could only be considered as the dependency of his action, declaration and political views.

The Drifted View |
MENTAILITY·SPACE
I express my feelings by figurative painting. The subjects I choose are mostly from my real life. Some special scenes of the city touch me constantly. I continually observe from a window, the top of a building, out of a car or walking down a road…I also paint nude women and portray sexual desire, pleasure and allure honestly.
I don’t look for perfection, only the true emotion. The verity of personal feelings and the truth of the soul behind the appearance. I try to let my audience be touched by my paintings with the sceneries touched me.

Desire Deep in My Heart |
“Time marches by on the grey walls of the Forbidden City. Shapes changing from big to small, from bright to gloomy. I remain in ‘holy’ expectation! The expected miracle has yet to arrive! The key is one must have sufficient patience to wait for the long awaited expectation to materialize…” That describes everything about me. This is the kind of light that I’m infatuated with. Sometimes I’m devoted to the essence of the senses. At other times I fall into the romance of art. I look for the assimilation in nature or to say, I seek those moments that make me hold my breath.
